Mitos y Leyendas / Ghosts and Legends

Ghosts and Legends is a series of painting and prints that explore the cultural connections between the American South and the rest of the Americas. Illustrating folk and ghost stories that are common in both regions, the objective is to highlight the commonalities that are usually misperceived or forgotten. For example, stories such as “Love Never Fails” from Central South Carolina, is very similar to “La Llorona” (The Weeper) a woman who wanders and cries constantly looking for her lost children. Some of the other ghost stories are “Devil’s Stompin’ Ground” and the infamous in South Carolina “Lizard Man” which I found to be extremely similar to the “Hombre-Caiman” a folk story from the Colombian Caribbean.

Works in different sizes, mostly acrylic on canvas and prints on paper.
