Artist’s Statement

My art is the result of an utter need to isolate myself to meditate and create works that challenge the viewers to explore -and hopefully find- concealed ideas and concepts.

I do enjoy the idea of relative permanence of my work; therefore I generally produce two-dimensional works, mostly paintings, illustrations and drawings, probably, because of my old-school training in graphic design and the arts.

However, recently I have been exploring installation and art objects as media. I believe there is still a lot of social art that needs to be done, thus my work dips into my views on community and social issues mostly related to immigration, acculturation, religion, language, gender and tradition.

My work is highly influenced by the tradition of early 20th century Colombian painters, American social realists and Mexican muralists, with a twist of Chicano ideas.
